Where there are people there is often conflict. Some conflict can be healthy, where people feel psychologically safe to express different views and opinions. But sometimes this doesn’t happen, and conflict turns into a complaint, a dispute, a grievance, a toxic team culture, a bullying or harassment claim etc. Then what?
Many workplaces use managing performance and conduct processes or workplace investigations to try to resolve workplace conflict. This often eventuates in participants feeling dissatisfied when claims cannot be substantiated, or unheard, leading to low morale impacting productivity. Alternatively, people just leave, increasing costly staff turnover and not great for the EVP.
Mediation offers a ‘first port of call’ option where parties willingly meet together, when safe to do so, with a neutral, third-party mediator. They participate in a facilitated, structured, confidential process to resolve their differences.
At Irenicon, our nationally accredited mediator (NMAS), has over 20 years’ experience in Human Resource Management, Employee Relations, Industrial Relations, and Executive Coaching. Helping organisations, teams and individuals achieve lasting and positive change is our expertise.

Mediation is a confidential peace-making exercise (not peacekeeping). It does not entertain submission or acquiescing by either person in the conflict. Mediation seeks to discover the real needs and interests of all the participants, facilitated by a skilled, trained mediator. This empowers the parties, through listening and creative problem-solving techniques, to discover new ways of seeing the situation and resolving their own issues.
Where relationships need to be preserved at work or in families, mediate first.
